The purpose is to identify activities
and services that is able to
control and influence for
identification and evaluation
of significant environmental
aspects and impacts.
To
ensure that the
significant environmental aspects
& impacts are
considered in establishing objectives,
targets and management programs.
Environmental aspect is Element
of the organization's activity,
product and service that is
likely to interact with the environment.
Environmental impact is Any
change to the
environment, whether adverse or
beneficial, wholly or
partially resulting from the
activity, product and
service of the organization.
Identification
of Environmental Aspects:
1. For
all activities, products
and services under
normal, abnormal and
emergency operating
conditions, identify the
actual and potential
environmental aspects and impacts by evaluating their interactions
with the environment through: Legal and local requirement, Identification of
waste streams, Process flow chart
2. Identify both the direct
and indirect environmental
aspects that can
interact with environment and
their associated environmental impacts. Where relevant, consider: Emission to
air, Release to surface water, Waste management, Contamination of land, Use of
raw materials and natural resources, Noise, humidity and dust nuisance, Other local environmental
and community issues.
3. In
addition to current
activities, consideration shall
be given to
relevant past and planned activities. This process shall
also cover indirect environmental impacts as a result of goods and services
purchased.
4. Identify all
actual and potential,
positive and negative,
on-site and off-site environmental impacts
associated with each
of the identified
aspect. An environmental aspect
may have multiple
environmental impacts. An
environmental aspect may also have different environmental impacts under
the respective operating conditions.
Evaluation
of Significance Environmental Impact:
1. Environmental aspects identified as
significant shall be managed within the HSEMS so as to prevent, minimize or
mitigate the environmental impacts. Where practicable, preventive measures
shall be taken into considerations. Depending on the situation, this may entail
combinations of the followings: Planned programs for improvement, Controls to
maintain performance, e.g.
operation control and
emergency preparedness and response procedures to ensure that they are
not deviated from environmental policy, Investigation and development of
opportunities for further improvement.
2. HSE
Manager/HSE Engineer shall
overall maintain and
update the Environmental Aspects.
3. The significant impacts will then be
priority based on existing resources for setting the company's objectives and
targets, as well as environmental management programs.
Updating
the Environmental Aspects Register:
1. The Environmental Aspects Register
shall be reviewed once in every three years.
2. When
new/modified processes, equipment
or chemicals are
introduced, the HSEC shall update the Environmental Aspects
Register.
3. The
results of the
review shall be
considered to formulate
new Environmental Management
Programs for the next fiscal year.
