The purpose of Chemical Handling & Spill
Control to defines a systematic approach for the chemical handling,
transportation, storage, use and
disposal as well
as the control
of spills and
leakage
1. Upon
receiving chemicals, ensure the correctness of the chemical
type and quantity against the delivery order. For new chemical, the chemical
inventory list shall be updated accordingly.
2. The chemical received shall be handled in
a proper manner and be stored in the designated area.
3. When handling chemical all personnel
shall use PPE, e.g. safety glasses,
gloves, respirator, etc., as recommended in the MSDS.
4. Ensure that empty containers are properly
retrieved and disposed off
when the contents
have been used
up as described
in Waste Management procedure.
5. In the event of accidental spillage,
clean up using the spill control kit available at the project site office.
Appropriate PPE as recommended in the MSDS shall be done by personnel involve
in the cleanup. Disposal of the contaminated spill oil shall be in accordance
with Waste Management.
6. Emptied
containers shall be
placed at designated
area(s) for further
actions. Disposal of empty
containers shall be according to Waste Management procedure.
7. Environmental Supervisor shall ensure
that the current MSDS for the all chemicals are available.
8. The master copy of all the MSDS shall be
kept at HSE Department and relevant copies shall be kept at points of storage
in the various departments.
